{RiverClan Territory}{Highlands} Commitment

Honeyspots swallowed when the ground under her paws shifted uneasily. The twolegs were coming awfully close, if she didn't know better she would have thought they maybe spotted her. What do I do? What do I do? I- I could try seduce them .. they are twolegs after all so- they wouldn't hurt a cat,.. would they? Starting to panic slightly she looked around. When the twolegs finally stopped her eyes were wide in terror. They stood very close to her spot and if they looked directly down they would without a doubt spot her. At that point, she just threw everything in it and hoped with all her heart that Petalcloud was okay. She jolted up and shot with all her strength towards the rabbit hole. She could hear the twolegs shout something {'Bloody hell!'} and when the shot rung in the air Honeyspots shot down the hole feeling the ground just behind her tail explode. She ran for a good while like that, maneuvering between the narrow holes, heart pounding as fast as the legs of a WindClan cat running at full speed. StarClan, forgive me! Let Petalcloud be okay! She crossed several light spots but based on instinct she ignored every one until she could swear she could smell her own territory and hear the river. She shot without a thought out of it and turned around instantly to see the twolegs in the far distance. She threw her head in her neck and let out a loud jowl to signal Petalcloud. "PETALCLOUD!" She screamed over it, hoping that she would hear it. The twolegs turned to her direction and that gave Honeyspots an idea. What if Petalcloud is still in there..? I .. I could lure them away from her! Hear racing she let out another jowl and with a wave of both triumph and fear she started to run making sure they would see her but making sure they would stay far enough behind so that she was out of shooting range. She led them directly out of RiverClan territory yowling loudly to alert possible clan mates in her way. When she was sure she was out of the territory she made a sharp turn to the right and disappeared into some thorns bushes. If it wasn't for the fact that a loud 'bang' rung in the air and a sharp pain in her left leg hit her like a canon. With a high pitched squeak she tumbled over into the bushes and shot a look to her bleeding leg. She was sure it didn't go trough, it probably only grazed it. It started to bleed and the fact that she was laying helplessly on the ground made her already panicked body reach its top level. She dragged herself to a hole next to a tree and streaked in it. It wasn't very deep but it was close enough to hide in. Praying the twolegs would go away she pushed herself all the way against the back of the hole, hairs upright, ears flat and eyes as round as a full moon. StarClan help me, please.

First, she saw a sudden movement in the grass in front of her. Not much later, she heard the shot. 'Honeyspots!' she screamed and without thinking, she jumped up and ran towards the place where the other cat should be. The only thing she saw was a dark hole. Honeyspots had escaped. Thank S- another shot was solved. She felt the wind when the bullet flew past, not a mouselength from her ear. She turned around and looked straight into a small black hole in front of the long, shiny stick. She couldn't move. Then, the shiny kill-thing was lowered. 'My god, it's a cat,' the twoleg said in it's unintelligible language. The other one came standing next to him and watched Petalcloud. 'So your mysterious rabbit was a cat...' he said. He chrouched and streched his foreleg towards her, making weird, clicking noises. 'Come here, kittycat, we won't hurt you,' The poor cat had no idea what they were saying. She just saw two scary monsters, trying to grab her. She was still in too much of a shock to move. She just stared to the twolegs with eyes like black pools. Then, slowly, she took a step back, but behind her was no ground. She was trapped between those monstrous creatures and the ravine...

She heard Honeyspots call her, but she was to afraid to reply. It destracted the twolegs and Petalcloud gave out a sigh of relief that they weren't watching her anymore. The crouching one stood up. 'Hey, Mike, look, something's in that bushes. Maybe there's a rabbit,' the other one said. 'Don't you think it's another cat? I thought I heard one mewing,' Mike answered. 'I didn't hear anything. And come on, there can't be that many cats in these woods. Maybe that gray one went outside from it's house and got lost. No, I think it's just a rabbit.' With that, he lifted his gun. No, no, don't shoot! Petalcloud thought. She mewed as loud as she could, but it was too late. The man shot and Petalcloud heard a squeek. 'Got it,' Mike said. When he turned around to his friend, Petalcloud saw a grin on his face. Do twolegs really like killing cats? she thought with horror. But why hadn't they killed her? 'Oh god, Mike, I really hope that was a rabbit,' the other twoleg said. They began walking away. Petalcloud spotted her chance and ran towards the bushes as fast as she could. 'Honeyspots? Are you allright?' she mewed anxiously. Please, Honey, please reply...

Honeyspots smirked while she felt the pain that tugged at her leg. The thing that the twolegs shot at her didn't pierce it, it went just past it. Her attention however was fully at the entrance of the hole and the sounds outside. She could hear the twolegs babble in some strange language and then they went away. With her eyes wide she let out a long breath that she realized had been holding the whole time. She nearly leaped back in surprise when Petalcloud suddenly out of a sudden shot trough the hole. 'Honeyspots? Are you allright?' She mewed. Honeyspots, still a bit frozen in shock slowly turned towards her clan mate. "I .. I guess .. my leg hurts .." She mewed softly as she shifted and rolled on her side. She looked at her left back leg and saw some blood. At least it isn't gushing out .. seems like just a flesh wound .. I should let Nightstrea, take a look.. With a bit of a tremble in her voice she tried to get op. "See, nothing wrong he- ouch!" She winced when she tried to put some weight on it. With a grunt she sat lay down again and began to mumble all sorts of swears and curses about twolegs. "Stupid twolegs! Ouch .. Are they mad, coming at our territory like that .. ouch .." She mewed, interrupting herself with some 'ouchs' between it. She sighted and realized that they had been very lucky, very lucky indeed that they survived this. But what on earth made those twolegs venture so far in RiverClan territory? Normally they would stick to the border and beyond, what drove them into here? Not paying any attention to Petalcloud anymore she stared past her into the distance and she felt suddenly very bitter emotions..

"I .. I guess .. my leg hurts .." Honeyspots said. Petalcloud heard her voice tremble. Pealcloud looked at her clanmates leg anxiously. It looked painful, but not like something that wouldn't heal. She was not sure, though, she wasn't Nightstream. Honeyspots lifted herself to her feet. "See, nothing wrong he- ouch!" she fell on the ground. "Stupid twolegs! Ouch .. Are they mad, coming at our territory like that .. ouch .." she grumbled. 'Lay down,' Petalcloud said. 'When you feel better we can return to the camp. I'll help you. We'll manage to get back. Or should I get us help? Nightstream will come if I ask her to? Or do you think you can walk again?' She hardly gave the warrior a chance to reply. She fell silent when she saw Honeyspots staring past her. 'Honeyspots?' she mewed.

She heard movement. When she turned around, she saw the twolegs coming closer. She crouched next to Honeyspots.
'Well, no rabbit here. You must have missed it,' the twoleg said. Mike shrugged. 'I suppose so. I don't think we're going to shoot anything else today. Let's knock off and go home. It's cold out here.' The other one nodded. They turned around and started walking away, their killing-pipes over their shoulders. Petalcloud sighed, relieved that those two monsters were finally leaving. 'Let's get you to the camp,' she said to Honeyspots. 'Can you walk by yourself or should I help you?'

A small cute apprentice waked up in the apprentice den. Her name was kittypaw. It was almost sunhigh, but still morning. It was cold an fresh outside, but it was leaf-bare. The apprentice had nothing to do today. Her mentor was too busy to train her today. She looked around the den, most apprentice were going off to train with the mentor of him or her. She yawned, and begon to lick her soft long fur. She was so bored. She walked out of the den and sniffed the fresh cold air of leaf-bare. Kittypaw thinked ''Should it going snow today?'' she looked to the air. Then she looked back and walked out of the camp. She where just walking when she smelled a cat. There was a wounded cat and another cat around here. She followed the scent and sawed two cats. ''What happend?'' she asked.

Honeyspots was vaguely aware that Petalcloud said something to her. She sighted and wished she could return to camp within two seconds. She suddenly felt very alone and small and she didn't like it one bit. 'Honeyspots?' She could hear Petalcloud mew. "Hm? What?" She mewed in reply somewhat awkward by the fact that she didn't heard what Petalcloud said before. 'Let's get you to the camp. Can you walk by yourself?' Honeyspots slowly rose to her paws and made sure this time there was no weight at all resting on her injured leg. "If I hop, that is. Like a rabbit .." She trailed of and felt dizzy. She lay down again. "Like a rabit" She repeated. "You know, maybe we should stick around here .. why don't you go get some help and-" She was suddenly cut off when she smelled RiverClan scent approaching. She kept herself from jolting up and looked towards the entrance of the hole. A small apprentice appeared and looked alarmed to see the two cats like this. She obviously smelled the blood, good thing she didn't came across some twolegs! "Kittypaw! What are you doing here? Where is your mentor?" She shot a meaningfull look towards Petalcloud. If her mentor were to be around it could alarm the clan and maybe she could stay here for a bit longer. Honeyspots didn't want to admit it, but this last thing scared her to death. This was the second time she stood eye to eye with death, and she didn't like that idea a bit. Bitterly she shifted again but remained laying down. Petalcloud could explain what happened, she didn't felt like talking anyway.

Honeyspots tried to get up. "If I hop, that is. Like a rabbit .." Then she laid down again "Like a rabbit. You know, maybe we should stick around here .. why don't you go get some help and-" She suddely fell silent. Petalcloud understood why when she cought the scent of another RiverClan cat. "Kittypaw! What are you doing here? Where is your mentor?" Honeyspots asked, but the approahing apprentice had a question too. ''What happend?'' 'Twolegs...' Petalcloud explained. Maybe the apprentice could get them help? Or she could stay with Honeyspots while she went to the camp to get Nightstream. ''Listen, could you get Nightstream here? As you see, Honeyspots is wounded. She can't walk to the camp in this state. But watch out for those twolegs. I don't know if they are still around, but they have those terrible shoot-things." She didn't like the idea of young Kittypaw walking around on her own with twolegs in the forest, but she couldn't leave Honeyspots alone right now.

When petalcloud asked if she can get nightstream she answered ''Yes i'll get her quickly, and by the way, my mentor tailchaser was too busy to train me today, so i walked out of the camp for..'' she stopped because she hadn't enough time to explain everything, honeyspot is wounded. ''I'll go now, i'll tel it to you later.'' she said and started running back to the camp. The wind blowed hard in her fur when she was running. She wondered why twolegs should do this, while she was running. After a time she camed back in the camp. ''Nightstream! Nightstream!'' she screamed. ''Nightstream honeyspot's is wounded! Help her please nightstream!'' Nightstream, please come quickly, she toughted while she was waiting for answer in the middle of the riverclan camp.

Honeyspots huffed when Petalcloud explained the situation to the young apprentice. When Kittypaw disappeared again she shifted for a moment and then looked Petalcloud right in the eyes once she got her attention. "I can't move and I doubt that Nightstream is in the camp, I think she went out or something today" She paused for a moment, making a very delicate decision in her head. She sighted and wished Cindersmoke was here with her. Since she knew that wishing for something like that was immature she quickly shoved it out of her head. As soon as she set foot in camp she would duck into the nearest den and stay there for a good while. The twolegs awakened something in her that has been resting for a while now. In a deep slumber, ready to jolt up when the time was right. She was not sure if Petalcloud noticed her change of behavior but at the time she had to admit she didn't care that much. She only cared for herself mostly at that point. She gave her wounded leg some quick licks and sighted again, deeper this time. She momentarily looked at her clan mate for a moment and then perked her ears when she heard, in the far, far distance a gunshot. She was startled at first but since the sound came from the right and RiverClan camp was at the left she doubted that it was near camp. They were pretty close to the border so she was sure they left the territory at last. Honeyspots pusher herself with a painful expression upward and sighted although said everything inside her that it would be best to stay where she was for now. She listened and complied. Slowly she sat down again and then rolled on her side. She ignored Petalcloud for a moment but then looked for any contact with her. "Petalcloud" She mewed firmly to get her full attention. "Leave me here" It sounded bitter yet coolly. In her eyes lay a dull, meaningful expression that gazed up to Petalcloud. Everything that you saw about her noted that she mend it.

When Kittypaw had gone off to the camp, Petalcloud sat down en curled her tail around her feet. "I can't move and I doubt that Nightstream is in the camp, I think she went out or something today" Honeyspots said. 'Maybe she is, and even if she isn't, Otterpaw probably is,' Petalcloud answered. 'He is young, but I think he's already learned enough to cure a wound like this. Maybe he hasn't learned everything about every illness yet, but I'm sure he knows how to use cowebs.' Honeyspots sighed and Petal wondered what the she-cat was thinking. Petalcloud sprang up when she heard a gunshot and her fur bristled, but than she realised the shot was fired pretty far away an probably outside their territory. The twolegs had left after all. She relaxed and sat down again. "Petalcloud" Honeyspots mewed suddenly. Her voice was firm and Petalcloud looked at her. "Leave me here" 'Wait... what? Why that? Kittypaw will be back soon with Nightstream or Otterpaw and I'm not in a hurry or something,' Petalcloud answered uncomprehending.

_{With a sight, Honeyspots turned her blue gaze back at Petalcloud. "No. She's not" She said in a matter of factly. Her bushy tail curled around her backside, covering her still bleeding leg and she grunted. She really didn't felt like leaving. She just wanted to stay here.. "Come on, I'll manage- get someone .. or just- nah forget about it" She broke herself off. She returned her gaze to nothing in particular and placed her head on her crossed forelegs. "I'll manage" She mewed blankly. Petalcloud just had to leave, it was all she wanted. Al did she get the distinct impression her clan mate was not ready yet to leave her here. The thing that she didn't want to admit, to herself and any other cat was that the fear she felt here was different than the fear she felt while facing Icy. These beings she just stood face to face to, were something no cat could defeat. These huge monstrosity's just would enter the territory and leave a trail of blood when they left as soon as no one watched. She felt like a coward, no, she was a coward..}

_{"No. She's not," Honeyspots said. How could she be so sure of that? Well, okay, already quite a while had passed and the apprentice wasn't back, but then still. Maybe Nightstream was busy with something, or she had to gather cowwebs first. "Come on, I'll manage- get someone .. or just- nah forget about it." The calico cat laid her haid on her forelegs. "I'll manage," she said again. 'But... I don't understand: why do you want me to leave so badly? Why can't I just wait here? It won't be too long before a patrol will find us. Maybe a hunting patrol, or a border patrol. We're not far from the border,' Petal said. She saw the frightened look in Honey's eyes and wondered what the she-cat wast thinking.

_{‘But... I don't understand: why do you want me to leave so badly? Why can't I just wait here? It won't be too long before a patrol will find us. Maybe a hunting patrol, or a border patrol. We're not far from the border’ Petalcloud insisted, not trailing of her original idea of staying behind with her clan mate. Honeyspots took a deep, shaky breath and lifted her head. Although she dared a glance towards Petalcloud she didn’t looked her straight in the eyes. After a long silence she opened her mouth and said in tone not more than a barely audible whisper ”But what .. if those twolegs come back?” She now portrayed her fear directly into her eyes so that Petalcloud could see the true reason why she was so persistent of staying here. Although she knew more than anyone that you could not stay here forever, right now was she more than determent to do so. Those monsters were worse than her worse nightmare and it made her quiver on her paws just by the thought of them. ”What if they do come back and slaughter everyone in their wake? They are not cats, Petalcloud. They are monsters who cannot be defeated by any cat. Alive or dead. No cat can do anything against them and-” She broke off her desperate mewing and realized she probably looked like a coward. A big one at that. But she knew she was. If Icy was out there, she would go back to camp without hesitation. If a dog was out there, she would run past it and make sure it would not follow her back to camp. Even a dog could be defeated.. at least that was what she thought. She never actually encountered one but always saw them as big cats. Twolegs were different, they were unbeatable no matter how hard you tried. Honeyspots always seemed to escape death. She looked it in the eyes more than once now and always did she had her way of escaping, no, surviving. But with this was the only thing she could do was hiding and praying. With a deep sight she looked again at Petalcloud and mewed with the most painful voice she had managed to croak so far, continuing the sentence she broke off before ”I am too much of a coward to go outside there anyway”}

_{”But what .. if those twolegs come back?” Honeyspots asked. The she-cat looked at her, but Petalcloud could look back. She didn't want to see her own fear reflected in the eyes of another. ”What if they do come back and slaughter everyone in their wake? They are not cats, Petalcloud. They are monsters who cannot be defeated by any cat. Alive or dead. No cat can do anything against them and-” Honey's broke of her sentence. Petalcloud still didn't look at the calico cat. She felt she trembled, but she didn't walk away. The longer Honey tried to persuade her of leaving, the more certain she became of her choise to stay. She kept silent and watched a beetle as it tried to climp a tree. It fell down every time it reached a certain point, but it kept and kept trying. It was quite forlorn.

None of the two cats said anything. Petalcloud heard a mouse scuffing through the undergrowth, but didn;t try to lacate the little animal. ”I am too much of a coward to go outside there anyway,” Honeyspots broke the silence. The beetle fell down again and Petalcloud moved her glance to the cat. 'They may come back, but the chanche isn't that big. Besides, if they do come back, I won't be safer at the camp than I am here,' she answered. 'What do you want me to do? Warn the others? As if that will help. You're right, we can;t stop a twoleg, but it doesn't matter wether I'm here or at the camp if they come. There is no use in hiding on or island, between the reed. If they really want to destroy us all, it won't matter where we are.' Her voice faded away. 'We wouldn't survive that anyway...' she continued quietly.}

If they really want to destroy us all, it won't matter where we are. We wouldn't survive that anyway...’ Her futile attempt to make herself clear made Honeyspots feel sick to her stomach. She made a strange noise and flecked her ears. She had a point, but the sense in the small calico she-cat was all gone. She lashed her tail in frustration and fear. She placed her ears back and huffed. ”… So you are suggesting we ought to leave?” She mewled eventually, feeling her paws grow heavy with every word she pushed out of herself. Still, I can’t bear the thought to see them again .. I really don’t want to go outside. She thought miserably. Honeyspots knew that Petalcloud was right and every vein in her body told her so. Somewhere she felt guilty for quivering in the dark, letting her clan mates to fend for themselves if the twolegs did came back. Slowly she closed her eyes and she turned her head away. Ashamed. She probably was a poor fighter anyway so she couldn’t really help anyway. She skipped that part of the training greatly, and focused all her attention to herself. Being selfish and angry at everything and everycat at the time. She had proven to be a bad fighter moons ago. I wish this day never happened. Silence. Petalcloud is right, I simply can’t stay here .. She squeezed her eyes shut. I have to be brave .. for the sake of my clan! Slowly she turned towards Petalcloud. Not looking very convenient she rose to her paws and made a huffing noise. ”Let’s get going .. I suppose” She mewled, sounding anything but strong.}

_{Petalcloud sighed. 'That wasn't very comforting, was it?' she said with a tiny smile. 'Sorry. Don't worry, I don't really expect those twolegs to come back. This isn't the first time those mosters are in our territory and they've never really tried to destroy RiverClan, or any other clan. I don't know why they are here, but I just don't believe they want us out of the woods. If those two really had wanted us... gone... they would've just shot us. But they didn't, did they?' ”… So you are suggesting we ought to leave?” Hoenyspots asked. ”Let’s get going .. I suppose” Petalcloud nodded.

She helped Honeyspots to get up. 'You know what? I can't believe twolegs really hate us cats. I mean, they keep cats themselves! Why would they hate clancats if they like kittypets enough to feed them? Those kitty's seem to enjoy living with twolegs, so it seems like they don't harm them or something,' she said. She kept silent for a moment to think. 'On the other hand, we heard from the gathering what happened to the WindClan deputy. Terrible. Maybe there are good twolegs, the ones with whom the kittypets live, and bad twolegs. Like good and bad cats. Do you think twolegs know about good and bad? I have no idea how intellegent thay are...'
Maybe her talking would comfort Honeyspots a little. Or it would just annoy her. Petalcloud sniffed. She smelled twolegs scent, but it was the scent of the twolegs that had left and it wasn't fresh. 'There are no twolegs nearby. I think it's safe to go to the camp,' she said to Honeyspots.}

_{‘Honeyspots sighted as Petalcloud helped her up. ‘You know what? I can't believe twolegs really hate us cats. I mean, they keep cats themselves! Why would they hate clancats if they like kittypets enough to feed them? Those kitty's seem to enjoy living with twolegs, so it seems like they don't harm them or something,' When a pauze kicked in Honeyspots didn’t said anything in return. 'On the other hand, we heard from the gathering what happened to the WindClan deputy. Terrible. Maybe there are good twolegs, the ones with whom the kittypets live, and bad twolegs. Like good and bad cats. Do you think twolegs know about good and bad? I have no idea how intellegent thay are..’ Letting the words sink in she eyed Petalcloud with a certain uncertainty. Indeed, the word that Inkmask, the WindClan deputy died by the hand of a twoleg was shocking enough for her to go back into her hole and stay there for a good while. ”Maybe those twolegs were rogues, abandoned by their twoleg houses ..” The calico she-cat suggested, finding her voice back slightly. It would make sense. She didn’t knew an awful lot about them but she did know for a fact that twolegs normally didn’t hunt. As she gave it more thought the idea of twolegs hunting cats made her paws feel numb. ‘There are no twolegs nearby. I think it's safe to go to the camp’ Petalcloud informed her as she sniffed the air. With a heavy heart, Honeyspots took a deep breath and limped outside of her cozy, warm shelter. As soon as her soft paws hit the hard ground she regretted her decision. Looking a bit frightened at Petalcloud as if she would pick her up and fly her all the way to camp she shifted unsteady on her paws making sure she didn’t put her weight on her wounded back leg. Fully aware that she was in no position anymore to run for her dear life she mewed courtly ”Hey let’s get out of here as fast as a squirrel..” Her voice trailed off as she glanced around. ”When I am home I am going to take a long and powerful nap in the medicine cat den- hell with it, I am going to take a nap for the rest of the day for all I care!” Honeyspots informed Petalcloud as if it was of great importance to her clan mate.}

_{”Maybe those twolegs were rogues, abandoned by their twoleg houses ..” Honeyspots said. Petalcloud nodded. 'That could be. It sounds like a logic explanation.' She saw the calico cat hestitate. She had a frightened look in her light-blue eyes. 'Don't worry, we'll be fine,' Petalcloud tried to comfort her. ”Hey let’s get out of here as fast as a squirrel..” Her voice trailed off and she looked around. ”When I am home I am going to take a long and powerful nap in the medicine cat den- hell with it, I am going to take a nap for the rest of the day for all I care!” she mewed. Petalcloud smiled. 'That'll be a good thing to do. I think I'm going to have an nap to. We deserve some rest after this,' she agreed.

While they walked, Petalcloud was thinking of what happened. 'I'm wondering...' she said. 'When we stood at the edge of that ravine, the twolegs saw us and lifted their shootthings, but then they lowered them again. Why didn't they shoot if they were wanting to kill us? It makes no sense...'}

_{As Honeyspots followed Petalcloud, limping as fast as her tired legs could handle, her mind started to trail off. Most thing she was doing right now was concentrating on her limping and scanning the area for sings of danger.'That'll be a good thing to do. I think I'm going to have an nap to. We deserve some rest after this,' ‘ ‘She nodded firmly .At least Petalcloud wasn’t wounded. At least Petalcloud wasn’t dead .. Reassuring thought.. ‘ She thought bitterly. ‘I'm wondering... When we stood at the edge of that ravine, the twolegs saw us and lifted their shootthings, but then they lowered them again. Why didn't they shoot if they were wanting to kill us? It makes no sense...’ Honeyspots shrugged at her comment. ”Well twolegs never make sense!” She mewed firmly, finding her old self back the closer they came to their camp. ”Maybe they were just testing if we would run or not .. ” Twolegs were indeed strange creatures. Reminded her of an old story she heard when she was a kit, about a clan cat joining a twoleg home because she didn’t felt like she belonged in her clan. The poor soul probably never had seen a twoleg, that would explain it. She was so taken aback by that story at the time that she swore to go find her someday and ask her but maybe her mother just made it up. While her mind trailed more off she sighted and gave Petalcloud a fast look. ”Hey .. Petalcloud .. ” Chancing the subject drastically now. ”Back in the field when you were running from the twolegs and I got in that rabbit hole ..
