MudWings
With us Mudwings, family comes first! We are massive, powerful dragons with armor-like scales. If we are warm enough, we are even able to breath fire. We value sibling bonds as most important and we never leave our brothers and sisters in peril.

Do you have the loyalty in your heart to be a Mudwing?

Appearance

MudWings have thick, armor-like scales, sometimes with hints of amber or gold in their underscales, which are usually the most obvious in the sunlight. They have been shown to be dark green like the marsh in the first book's graphic novel, but this has yet to be shown as canon in any other media. Their nostrils are located on the top of the snout on a large, flat head so that they can lay submerged in mud for long periods of time. Their eyes have been described as brown, golden-amber, pale amber, or brown with yellow rings around the pupils. They have strong, sturdy, stable, muscular bodies, and closely resemble alligators, crocodiles, and other prehistoric reptiles.

Culture

MudWing names generally relate to earth and swamps, and the things that live there, such as Reed, Crane, Clay, Pheasant, Moorhen, Sora, and Cattail, or shades of brown, such as Umber, Sepia, and Ochre. Sometimes they can also be named after types of diamonds, such as Asha, possibly because they form in areas with mud or because of the Diamond Spray Delta, or synonyms of swamps or swampy areas such as Marsh, General Swamp, and Bog.

MudWings lay their eggs in bunk houses that are well protected with warm rocks and covered in mud walls, in a way similar to real-world crocodilians. This environment is so protected that the mother only has to check on them once in a while; she is often not there during the hatching. The first dragonet to hatch out is often the largest and is known as the bigwings. The bigwings have a natural instinct to help their siblings break open their eggs, and eventually become the leader of the siblings. After the mother covers the eggs, she will never check on them again, or even need to, as it is quite rare for MudWing parents to care about their dragonets, and the eggs are very safe even if they did. As a result, the bigwings of the group usually becomes the caretaker and parental figure.

MudWings live and work in loyal units with their siblings. They grow up together, learning to hunt and survive and form very close bonds. These groups are often called "sibs" by MudWings, but the term is seldom known or used in any of the other tribes. During wars, the army of MudWings is made up of troops that are formed by these sibling groups, which allows them to fight very effectively as one unit. If enough siblings are lost in battle, the other members of the troop will look for other dragons to form a new group with and are called unsibs. Unsibs are MudWings who have lost most or all their siblings having the same blood as them. Sometimes, unsibs will make a group and stay together like real siblings, who stick with each other through just about anything. Some MudWings will not accept unsibs in their troops, preferring only their true siblings.

Pairings are not formal, with a breeding night once a month. Parents do not raise their children, and usually, do not know the names of their offspring. Males have no part in caring for their offspring, and neither do the mothers. Often nobody would even know who the father was. A family is comprised of only the siblings.

Abilities

If they are warm enough, MudWings are able to breathe fire, though not as well as SandWings, NightWings, and SkyWings (SkyWings can breathe hotter fire), since they can breath fire without being warm. Mudwings are also known to be quite strong due to their muscular bodies. They are most comfortable in muddy or swampy areas and can blend into marshy areas quite well. Mud is often used to treat and ease the pain of wounds and heal them. In addition, they can hold their breath for up to an hour.

MudWings that hatch from blood-red eggs, laid every few years or so, are described to be resistant to heat and fire, their scales heal very fast from burns or damage from fire. It is currently unknown if there are causes for eggs to be blood-red, or if it's just random chance. Though fire will still hurt them, any injuries suffered by fire will instantly heal over. This fire immunity works faster once the MudWing has been exposed to mud, as dragons draw strength from their natural habitats. If a burn is too deep or large, however, it will not heal.

SeaWings
We Seawings are graceful swimmers. We have fins, gills and bioluminecent scales in order to communicate underwater. In our tribe, we value art, treasure and collaboration, deciding our next paths by an advisory council. We may seem serene and calm, but we are not to be trifled with, as we are fearsome warriors in the water.

Do you have it in you to be part of the Seawing Tribe?

Appearance

SeaWings commonly range from a scale color of blues, greens, aquamarine, and rarely indigo, although some are pale blue with hints of pale pink like the inside of a seashell. In the sunlight, their scales look like emeralds and sapphires. SeaWings usually have green or blue eyes, with some having gray-green eyes. The SeaWings have webbed talons with hooked claws, as well as long, powerful tails, which makes them excellent swimmers, and can be used for self-defense. They also can make powerful waves with one splash of their tails. SeaWings have gills on the side of their necks that allow them to breathe underwater.

They're rather small, in height, and have long, compact bodies with short legs. SeaWings have curved horns, with a slender and curved snout, and have short tendrils coming from the bottom of their chin. They have webbed spines along their chest and along the backs of their necks to the tips of their tail. SeaWings also have their powerful tails to propel them through water.

Culture

Some Seawings are named after sea related items or wildlife. Ex. Nautilus, Anemone, Orca, Tsunami, Shark, and Turtle. They also have names related to shades of blue colors, like Indigo and Cerulean, or gems that have SeaWing colors, like Sapphire. Finally, they can have names relating to SeaWing anatomies, like Webs or Gill.

Seawing queens are get advice in their ruling from their council. Of course, the ultimate decision lies in the claws of the queen. They have two palaces where they can reside, the summar palace, which is primarily above water, hidden beneath canopy at an island, and the deep palace, which is hidden deep in the sea.

As underwater conversation is difficult, Seawings light up their bioluminescent stripes in order to converse underwater. Along with these stripes, they use their talons for supplemental gesturing in order to get what they want to say accross.

Special

SeaWings have the ability to breathe underwater with their gills, have excellent night vision (if it's too dark, though, they only see black and white), light up their glow-stripes to blind an enemy momentarily (or to converse in Aquatic), and they are excellent swimmers. They also have long, thick, powerful tails, which can be used as dangerous weapons, creating huge splashes and waves, and for swimming faster. No creature can surpass their speed through the water. They often use currents to increase their speed when traveling underwater and having webbed talons helps them swim. To attract mates at an older age, they can light up a special pattern on their bio-luminescent scales. However, they have also been used as signals above the water.

RainWings
Welcome to the colourful Rainwing tribe where we value peace and prosperity. Here in the RainWing tribe, we enjoy a carefree lifestyle with suntime at mid-day and fun games to pass the time. We are pacifists and herbivores and don't involve ourselves with the politics of other tribes. With our colour shifting scales, we are quite difficult to spot as well!

Do you have the peaceful heart to become a Rainwing?

Appearance

A RainWing's scales will generally change color according to their mood, whether they want that color or not. However, they do have some sort of base colour, that shows when they are in a relaxed state or when they manage to subdue their color change. Their scale colors are very bright and colorful, inspired by birds of paradise. While they can control their scales, they can have a hard time stopping emotions, particularly powerful ones, from coming through, most RainWings do not care to have their emotion on display. RainWings also change their scale colors to be as bright and pretty as possible in front other dragons to show off.

RainWings are long and graceful, with a ruff behind their ears and prehensile tails that are used primarily for climbing trees and hanging in the rainforest they inhabit. When afraid or insulted, RainWings flare their ruffs, possibly as a defense tactic, to seem bigger or to scare away others, similar to that of the frilled lizard.

Culture

For names, RainWings tend to name their dragonets after rainforest animals, such as Kinkajou or Tamarin, plants, such as Jambu, Mangrove, or Orchid, fruits such as Mango or Coconut, and adjectives, such as Exquisite, Dazzling, Glory, or Magnificent.

The sun is needed to make a RainWing's scales beautiful and vivid (and to keep them in a agreeable, peaceful mood), so sometime around noon when the sun is at its highest each day, every RainWing takes a nap, or "sun time". If they do not get this sun time, then their scales are not as vibrant or bright. In addition to making them better at camouflage and color changing, sun time also makes a RainWing less grumpy and gives them more energy, like a lizard basking in the sun. possible in front other dragons to show off. When a RainWing's fear is very strong, they will turn pale green and white and are unable to camouflage or change their scales.

RainWings have a shared hatchery where all mothers leave their eggs. The tribe takes care of the eggs and the dragonets together as a whole, not assigning any importance to who the actual parents of an egg are. As each dragon's heritage is somewhat fuzzy, before mating, two RainWings will spray their venom on leaves or other plant matter to see if they are related. A RainWing's venom will neutralize their relative's venom, whereas an unrelated dragon's venom will cause the target to dissolve faster. This might also be used to find relatives, should a RainWing want to know.

As RainWings are a peaceful tribe, spitting venom at another dragon or a living creature is not done. They are also the only tribe that does not eat meat, but prefers fruits from the rainforest.

Abilities

RainWings can alter the color of their scales to mimic objects (such as tree frogs or pearls), their surroundings, other dragons, or simply to suit their preference. By changing their scale color they can also appear to be invisible, totally blending into their surroundings. A RainWing's colors may also change if they feel a particularly strong emotion.

RainWings also have prehensile tails much like chameleons to grip onto trees. They swing from tree to tree, called "tree gliding" to move about over long distances, as vines and branches would make normal flying difficult. RainWing dragonets take tree gliding lessons (as well as other things).

RainWings possess deadly venom, the effects closely related to Hydrofluoric Acid (eating away at flesh), which can be shot from their two longest fangs, like a spitting cobra. Their venom melts away at dragon scales easily, and unless nullified with flame (or the venom of a relative to counteract the venom), the venom will kill the victim with alarming speed if the droplets land in the eyes or bloodstream. However, landing on normal scales you may survive. Furthermore, RainWing venom only affects living things such as leaves or flowers, and cannot affect inorganic objects such as rocks or metal. If only a small amount of venom comes in contact with another dragon, it can brutally scar their scales and leave them disfigured instead of killing them completely. RainWing venom is very painful when contacted, much like acid.

RainWing venom is black. When it hits hard ground, it will, after some time, dry into hard glossy droplets, similar to obsidian. While spitting their venom, RainWings fully open (unhinge) their mouth, much like a snake.

NightWings
We are the Nightwings, the most powerful tribe in all of Pyrrhia. Within our Tribe, we value power and knowledge. Our scrolls are read throughout the whole continent and our researchers are always in search of more knowledge. We Nightwings have the power of prophecy and can read other dragons minds.

Do you have the wisdom to be a Nightwing?

Appearance

NightWings have forked, black tongues (like SandWings) and usually have black or purplish-black scales with silver, purple, dark green, or dark blue underscales like the night (mind readers have silver teardrop scales by the corners of their eyes). They have been described with dark green, black, or emerald green eyes. The underside of their wings are always black, and speckled with silver scales that give them the appearance of a night sky filled with twinkling stars, allowing them to fly at night without detection. NightWings were once most active at night and tended to sleep during the day, but their nocturnal sleep schedule had been changed, so they now sleep at night, like the other dragon tribes. The star patterns on their wings seem to be genetic.

Culture

NightWing names can be compound words that describe NightWing powers, such as Fatespeaker and Mindreader. The names can also describe the dragon's personality or ability, such as Mastermind and Quickdeath. Descriptive words, such as Thoughtful, Vengeance and Listener, are used as well, as are night-themed compound words such as Starflight and Moonwatcher.

Nightwing Culture is shrouded in a lot of mystery and most Nightwings keep to themselves. No other dragon knows where the tribe resides and what they are up to. Nightwings, therefore, have taken no part in the war.

NightWings have a blind loyalty to their tribe and are willing to do everything to ensure their tribe's survival. Nightwings who weren't gifted with the power of prophecy or mindreading, will therefore lie about their powers. Nightwing dragonets arent allowed to leave the tribe until they finished school and they are considered an adult. In school, Nightwings are taught how to bluff their powers if need be and are taught everything about the scientific knowledge Nightwings hold.

Nightwings, like Seawings, form lifelong partnerships.

Abilities

NightWings are described to look like "the night sky coming down on you" when attacking. They move unseen through the shadows and blend into the night, which gives them a fearful reputation and makes them more deadly and excellent assassins. They can also be described as being able to melt into the shadows, becoming slightly invisible. In addition, these dragons are also able to breathe fire at any time, like SkyWings and SandWings. NightWings also appear to be slightly fire-proof.

A NightWing hatched under one full moon can either read minds or see the future, while a NightWing that hatched under two full moons can do both. It is also said that if an egg hatches under three full moons the dragonet still has both powers but strengthened. Naturally, a NightWing that did not hatch under a full moon, will not have any of these powers, however the tribe takes great care to make the other tribes think this gift is bestowed upon all NightWings.

Because we don't want our NightWings in this roleplay to be all over powered against the other tribes, we have come up with a dice roll system for every new NightWing that joins. This dice roll, done by the WoF team, will determine if your dragon hatched under the moons or not and if so how many. Meaning your NightWing can have no powers, 1 power or in very rare cases 2 powers. The dice roll will also determine which of the two possible powers you'll get if it rolls 1 power. However, even if your NightWing has no powers at all, they will still act like they do in front of the other tribes.

SandWings
Do you have what it takes to be a desert dwelling Sandwing? We Sandwings are built to survive the harsh temperatures of the desert. With our venomous tails, we are able to defend ourselves against any dragon with a lethal poison. Within our Tribe, we value dragons who have the skills to survive.

Can you stand the heat and be a Sandwing?

Appearance

SandWings have long necks and are anatomically and biologically built to survive in the desert. Their fire is said to have a golden tinge to it. They have pale yellow, pale gold, light sandy-colored, white-gold, light yellow-brown, or off-white scales that blend in with the desert sand. Some SandWings have been described with brown speckles on their wings and snouts, sort of like human freckles. Their snouts tend to be short and compact, with a nose-spike, and a smaller horn under their ear. Some can also have black diamond patterns on their scales and wings. Some have also been noted to have triangle patterns on their wings. They have a ridge going from their head and about 3/4 of their tails, forked black tongues, glittering black eyes, and are armed with venomous, scorpion-like barbs on the end of their tails. SandWings seem to walk on their toes (digitigrade). Some SandWings have been shown to have tattoos.

Culture

SandWings are the dragons of the desert biome, so naturally, that is where they get their names. The flora, fauna, and landscape of both deserts and savannas are used as names to the tribe. They also name themselves after fire or the after effects of it. SandWings have also been known to name themselves after black colored gemstones. Examples are: Burn, Thorn, Onyx, and Dune.

SandWing dragonets are taught how to hold their tails in a certain way, as to not accidentally harm another dragon. They are also known to hold their tail in a more threatening manner, mimicking that of a scorpion's threatening stance.

SandWings live together in small villages, where merchants and traders ensure that they can make a living. Within these market societies, you can see a clear distinction between the richer and poor dragons, ensuring that some villages have neighbourhoods that reside within poverty. This also leaves the opportunity for thugs to rule.

Abilities

The two main SandWing defenses are their ability to breathe fire and poison other dragons with their venomous barbed tails, which they use by stabbing their enemies' hearts, backs, and skulls.

The venom in a SandWing's barb acts like scorpion venom. This venom may possibly target blood cells or white blood cells to let bacteria to set in, as wounds turn black and became infected, with the darkness spreading gradually. The venom sac, which carries the venom, is most likely located right under the barb. The venom's lethality depends on the dosage. A full dose can kill almost instantly, while a smaller dose kills slowly. If it is not a full dose, it can be countered by the juice from a brightsting cactus, which grows commonly outside the queen's stronghold, and is shown to be sold in the Scorpion Den.

They are also able to survive extended periods of time without water and can bury themselves in the desert sand to camouflage themselves, usually against enemies and for protection. SandWings can also eat very little and radiate moderate heat from their scales, no matter the temperature outside. Out of all the tribes they have the best hearing.

IceWings
We, the Icewings, are a very prideful tribe. In our tribe, we value order and sophistication. Within our ranking system, everyone knows their place within the Tribe. We can breath deadly frostbreath instead of fire and are able to withstand sub-zero temperatures.

Don't disappoint us, young Icewing.

Appearance

An IceWing's scales can range from silvery white colors to pale shades of blue and purple. Their coloring has been described as "silver like the moon", "pale blue like ice", "as pale as the moons," or "scales the color of sky reflected in the snow on the distant mountain peaks", and sometimes "moon white scales." The head of an IceWing is shaped like a diamond and are very narrow. They are lean dragons that also have surprisingly strong but narrow whip-like tails with extra icicle-shaped spines, being very sharp at the tip of the tail. IceWings have blue, black, or stormy grey eyes, forked blue tongues, and ridged, serrated claws to grip the ice while traveling by talon around their habitat. They have also been noted to have dark blue blood, unlike the normal dark red blood of the other Pyrrhian tribes. Their claws are described to feel "four times sharper than average claws" due to them being serrated. Some IceWings, such as Lynx, have been described to have dark blue or purple freckles or markings on their faces and wings.

Culture

IceWing names are chosen by the family member with the highest rank and must be approved by the queen. They can be named after ice formations such as Glacier, arctic animals (terrestrial or aquatic) such as Narwhal and Lynx, words for "white" in various languages such as Hvitur, polar landscapes such as Tundra, and polar weather such as Hailstorm. Also, it is possible for them to be named after blue and white gemstones such as Diamond.

The IceWings appear to be fairly sophisticated in comparison to the other tribes, being the only dragons to have social classes. The social order seems to be a little reminiscent of a lower-level Russian 1800's society combined with something that seems a little Spartan. Almost all of them are full of themselves. They also seem to be good planners due to their use of the animus IceWings in their tribe.

The IceWing tribe is divided into seven ranks, or circles, of status, with the First Circle being the best and the Seventh Circle being the worst. They separate dragonets and adults into two different divisions. Before their seventh hatching day, IceWing dragonets climb up the ranks by hunting, training, performing the proper IceWing customs impeccably, and surpassing various tests given by the dragonets' parents or guardians. The current rank possessed by the dragonet on their seventh hatching day determines the course of the rest of his or her life, although adult dragons are still capable of dropping or gaining circles. Dragonets who were ranked in a high-ranked circle are housed in the queen's palace when they are adults and are granted input on important political and tribal matters as well. This system is called the Gift of Order, a wall of ice showing the ranks of each and every noble dragon and dragonet. The place where you rank on your seventh hatching day determines where you will live as an adult.

IceWings have a strict behavior to uphold. IceWings tend to be very proud, stiff, and arrogant dragons. Tribal pride isn't a secret among the IceWings, and thus their tribe consists of very haughty and uptight individuals. On the rare occasion that an IceWing interacts with a member of another tribe, it's usually very formal and forced; the IceWings believe that their tribe is superior to any other and that the other tribes are just a footnote in the great IceWing sagas that told the history of Pyrrhia. Thus, the entire time they're talking to someone, it's usually with disdain.

Abilities

IceWings can withstand subzero temperatures and very bright light. Their serrated claws are incredibly good at gripping ice and can be used to tear into their enemies' flesh quite easily; being clawed by an IceWing is said to be about as equal as getting clawed four times. According to The Dragonet Prophecy and Moon Rising, IceWing scales radiate a chill, similar to SandWing scales, which radiates heat.

Instead of breathing fire, IceWings exhale a deadly freezing weapon called frostbreath, sometimes known by other dragons as "freezing death breath." This vapor can quickly induce terrible frostbite, and if the frostbreath enters through another dragon's throat, it can kill them by fusing their internal organs together.

SkyWings
We are the fiercest of the seven tribes, the Skywings! With our large wings and fiery breath, we are extremely quick fliers and a force to be reckoned with. Within our tribe, we value excitement and displays of power. Do not take us lightly, as we are powerful soldiers!

Come join us and soar high in the skies!

Appearance

Ordinary SkyWings have red, pink, orange, or golden scales with yellow, orange, or amber eyes. Their scales have been described to be "jewel-hard." Firescales SkyWings can have bright blue eyes and unnaturally bright copper scales. SkyWings have enormous wings, larger than any other tribes', attached to their bodies by their shoulder bones. It has been implied that SkyWings have a strong respiratory system, probably because of their constant high-altitude environment. Most SkyWing snouts are thin and long, with a nose-spike, and an extra horn on their jaw. Their horns are long, thin, and curved, similar to RainWing horns in shape. Most SkyWings are slender but powerful.

Culture

SkyWings tend to name their young after sky or mountain-related environments and creatures, such as birds (Osprey), things occurring or features on mountains (Cliff), as well as natural sky phenomena (Princess Sunset), and since the SkyWings seem to be based on the element of fire, fire-related names (Flame), and minerals (Pyrite) and gems.

SkyWings value excitement and gladiatorial combat, as shown with the popular appreciation of the SkyWing Arena. Even during Queen Scarlet's reign, SkyWings used justice and honor within their combat systems, an example being the Champion's Shield. Under Queen Scarlet's rulership, the SkyWings use many torture methods on misbehaving prisoners, a SeaWing, any water for months, driving him insane.

Skywings do not mate for life, participating in a breeding program to ensure the most capable dragons are being born. Dragonets have been shown to be raised in a Wingery. The Wingery is described as a place for young dragonets to grow and play, similar to a scavenger daycare. Most SkyWing mothers are shown to care very much for their dragonets, doing anything to protect them.

SkyWings have a ceremonial burial system of wrapping the body in white cloth and setting it on a high altitude area for a week so that the spirit can fly into the sky and reincarnate into another SkyWing as opposed to another dragon tribe.

Abilities

SkyWings are well-known for their superior and refined skills in combat; many SkyWings have been shown or mentioned to be fairly physically strong. They can fly faster than any other dragon tribe because of their large wings and keels, and are also capable of breathing large amounts of fire at extreme temperatures.

In rare cases, very few dragonets will be born with a dangerous condition called firescales, in which the affected dragon will be able to burn anything they touch with abnormally hot temperatures. Water and frostbreath have no affect on firescales SkyWings, although frostbreath has been noted to numb the affected area until the ice melts away. Firescales SkyWings cannot wear jewelry, hold ordinary items, or sleep on anything flammable, as it will all be destroyed within seconds of contacting their scales. They also will explode dragonflame cactus upon touching it. It is unknown if firescales SkyWings can cry, but it is likely that they cannot.
