Beware the dark pool at the bottom of our hearts.
In its icy depths dwell strange and twisted creatures it is best not to disturb.

It felt quite strange. The taste of blood and raw meat on his lips never quite seemed to be something you could get used to. It tasted sweet, with a hint of iron or salt. It could take him years to describe what it was he was tasting and it still wouldn't be quite the right combination of words to describe it. Truly blood was one of the most amazing things you could feed yourself on in this world.

It had been many many years since he became like this. He wouldn't call himself a vampire, those were overused by books and movies to drive teenage hormones crazy. He also didn't quite fit under the zombie genre though he'd love to eat some brain from time to time. They, shades as they were known to a select view were something more like demons but without the whole fallen angel religious part. All of them, however select their group was, was made up of humans from over the ages all longing for blood and immortality.

His reasoning might have been more on the romantic side. Which honestly, seems almost impossible seeing how he was right now. Achilles was a monster in almost every sence of the way. He was taller and more broad than perhaps any man alive. His eyes seemed to shift from almost a glowing light blue to deep dark pits of black which showcased his nickname 'shark'. Any person would be scared if they got too close and saw the real him.

Even from further away he seemed more like a monster than a man. There was something twisted about the way he walked, the way he seemed to zone in on a person and stare straight through their souls. This was not something he had gotten exactly from handing over his soul. He had always been a cold and bitter person. Death had been en enjoyment of his from long before while he had still been human. He enjoyed watching things suffer and making lives come to an end. However, that had not been why he signed over his mortal soul.

It had all been because of her. Her ruby red hair and deep blue eyes that had hold him captive. She had sang to him and turned his stone cold heart soft and warm, and he had loved her. Owh how he had loved her. She had been his and he had layed his life with hers. And then she died.

She died and left him alone.

It had been enough to drive him crazy. It had been enough to find out any possible way to bring her back. He had abused her dead body like he had tried to create some sort of frankenstein. He had injected her with any kind of poison to turn her back into some mutant life form hell even spiderman couldn't take that much venom inside of him. He had tried it all and in the end only ended up ruining her body. So he tried to do the next best thing. Find a way to return her soul to him. And he had found a way, tales speaking about souls being immortal, returning to a new body once the old one had died. He could find her reincarnation and be with her once more. All at the low cost of time. He needed time to find her again, time to let her grow up and become his once more. So he sold his soul to the devil. Bargained a deal, became a living corpse for the devils advocate and bring hell to earth with every blue moon that hit it.

Ever since he gave himself up he had slowly been turning into less and less of a human being with every moon that came and went. But he found her, he found her and protected her, he found her and loved her. And in the end. Out of the maybe 10 or already 20 times that he had found her. He had killed her over and over again. It was a cruel fate and probably for his companions a laughing stock every 30 to 40 years. He'd take it. He'd shoulder it. One day he would find her. One day they'd be together, she'd remember him and they'd grow old together. However much of a fleeting dream that may be.

In silence he moved his body up again, the blue moon was fading from the night sky and soon dawn would break. Their play would be over and all of them would be fed and ready for however long it might take to bring upon the next moon. Normally this would just be a quiet time for all of them. They were not social people and only really came together if their lord and commander requested this of them. But now it seemed he was not alone. She was watching him. She was a genious at hiding, being able to transform herself into every living creature that excisted, but shades could feel eachother quite well and she didn't seem to hide well enough for him. Did she want him to know she was there? "Ayana." His voice was cold and rough while his dark eyes turned towards her staring through the shadows as he wiped his hands from the blood and organs still sticking under his fingernails. "Surely this cannot be a suprise visit from my best friend can it?" He sounded almost cheerfull while his eyes stayed just as cold and emotionless staring into the distance.

"What is it?"

you're just a mere mortal

stuck in a world of immortality

Oh how she had come a long way. Ayana licked the blood from her lips, her gaze stuck upon the dismembered body that lay silently on the ground just before her feet. "We warned them didn't we," she said. A small grin crept up her face and she turned around to look Avanti in the eyes. A wicked smile that could easily compete with hers appeared on his lips. Only the madness in it reached his eyes. "They will never listen as long as they believe their little fairytales about good and evil,"[/b] he said.

Ah yes, fairytales. There wasn't anything more human than to believe in sweet, sugarcoated stories that were meant to entertain children. She knew better than anyone. Her life was proof of the fact that those tales weren't real. That reality was far too cruel for anything so sweet and innocent to play a part of it. The thought of princes on white steeds that came to save the day almost made her chuckle. People were fools for believing such nonsense. She had played the part, been the exotic princess that was forced into a castle and marry a so called prince. He had been a monster. She had not expected otherwise, but for her fears to become so real. Not that she regretted anything now. Had she never been forced to leave her tribe, she had never known Avanti and the life of a shade.

Funny actually, how she would describe her former betrothed as a monster rather than the soulless man standing in front of her right now. If you looked up the word in a dictionary the both of them would certainly fit the description. Yet he had never been as cruel to her. Not in the same manner anyways. And thus she was extremely loyal to him. That loyalty had been rewarded and they had worked together for ages already. Fading everything that belonged to her life among the living into the past. Her people died out centuries ago, but she did not care about them, as they had been dead to her before their actual passing.

"I'll check up on the others," she informed her commander, who was still standing near. He gave her a curt nod and disappeared into the shadows. They would report everything to him later. Ayana closed her eyes and concentrated. Her blood caught on fire and a moment later her arms had transformed into black feathered wings, her body smaller and light, in the form of a giant raven. She took off, knowing exactly where to find the others. As she neared the first one on her list, she merged with the shadows, waiting a bit, letting him sense her presence. It didn't take him long, but of course he had been with them for a long time already. She left the shadows, transforming back into her human form again. A human had been disgusted by the sight of him, still drenched in the blood of his prey. She wasn't a human however, so did not even waste time to look at the mess he had made.

"I can make surprise visits anytime I want, Achilles," she said, a flicker of amusement showing in her green eyes. Ayana walked a bit towards him and sat down on a small ledge that stuck out of the building. She turned her gaze towards him once more. "I'm just checking up on you all. As far as I know I don't need a particular reason to do so," she explained. Both her and Avanti knew none of them would be disobedient of their orders, but her energy wasn't completely drained yet so she needed something to kill the time. Achilles had proven very useful for such purposes in the past. Humans might have described this as friendship, though only for a lack of a better word.

Beware the dark pool at the bottom of our hearts.
In its icy depths dwell strange and twisted creatures it is best not to disturb.

He had nothing to loose at this point in time. The Maybel of this day in age had already passed away and it would still be quite some time till he could set out to search her again and start his mission all over again. It was a sickening quest and with each time he started it over again he seemed to loose more and more of his soul and humanity if it hadn't faded at all already.

Where in the beginning he could still feel something during his daily life now all those feelings had faded and he only seemed to feel the tiniest spark of his heart when he was around her. When she hugged and kissed him once she knew he loved her. It was rough on him. With every passing day as he got her close he'd try to gain as muchof those little sparks in order to keep his sanity in tact. But he kept needing more and more of that drug. And she kept dying earlier and earlier. It was a sick little game death played with him. But one day he would manage to let her escape this dance they seemed to have and save her soul from damnation once more.

It was only this which kept him alive. Which kept him going. Atleast, he wanted that to be the only reason. Truth be told he started living every second more for these moments. The moments where he could let the beast inside of him loose and murder and destroy as much life as he could. It almost seemed like a game who could slaughter the most.

Truly they were all beasts who needed to be put down before they could destroy more families. But who was there to stop them? Most deaths were ruled as wild beasts or savage murders that could not be fixed. No ties were bound to them as no one ever found them in the act and walked out alive. And even if someone found out. They'd end up dead even outside of a blue moon. Yes the big scary shade club was not one to mess with. Maybe they had to start a band. With all five looking fairly handsome and Ayana being just drop dead gorgeous and exotic they'd make millions while getting enough food on a plate, teenagers ready to jump in front of bullets now wouldn't that be a feast.

All this he had been thinking of while standing in front of Ayana, his grin spreading a bit more staring off into the distance seeing it all unfold. Normally he walked around a bit more gentleman like but right now his dark blouse and pants were covered in bloodstains and blood and guts were smudged over his face and he could swear some skin was hanging in his hair while blood and meat was still stuck between his teeth.

He looked like a straight up Freddy Kruger but Ayana didn't even seem bothered about it. Off course she did not. She herself also didn't look all to clean right now though probably ten times less vile as he did. After all she was still a lady in some way. Crossing his arms lightly he leaned against the ledge she sat down on and looked up towards her. "Ah yes, you're just worried about all of us you're such a momma." He made a soft chuckle and shook his head getting a hand through his thick black hair and leaned back. "So how was your hunt hmm. Taking it you went with the big boss?" Yana and Avant normally went together, they always seemed together and he had still a bet running with Thriumph when they would finally be catched in a bed together. Males could still reproduce. So why couldn't female shades?

Once again he couldn't help but smirk. No way in all of hell would he keep his head right now if Avanti heard his thoughts. The man had already once threatened to cut his balls. He'd rather live on with them and his head. Knowing Thri probably thought the same way they kept their little bet silent but one day it would happen. They'd eather catch them in the act in some way or she would get pregnant. Now uncle Achilles, that did have a nice ring to it didn't it?
