| It had been one of those nights. You know, those nights where you just keep on thinking and thinking.. Not even particularly about problems or things that bother you. Or anything important that is. Just one of those nights where you stay awake to let irrelevant thoughts flow through your mind. He has never had a problem with staying awake, though. Nighttime was for him the moment when everything came to life. The moment where he'd stand in the spotlight, with everyone else sleeping. However, he sometimes wished he could just stop thinking. Just for once.
The smell of old crusty leaves bathing in the fresh morning dew of Leaf-fall and the first disruptive sunrays interrupting his short sleep reminded him that the night had come to an end and the moon had to make way for the sun. He managed to wake up from a two-hour long sleep and found himself waking up on a small hill with a half-devoured mouse between his paws. After he couldn't sleep last night, he decided to go hunting. Seems like in the end he was too tired to stay awake for the whole night. Lusterflame is an expert in seeing though the darkness of the night: his name is proof of that. But this night he did not care where he went to, or paid any attention at all to which direction he ran when he was chasing the mouse. With barely opened eyes, he slowly shook his head to look around. Until suddenly he realized he did not know this place. His eyes flew wide open and he was thunderstruck. What is this place? He did not remember ever being here. Then again, it was almost rare he went to other territories or places outside of his camp. How far did he go? His eyes went back and fourth, observing the new scenery 'till he opened his mouth to smell. His eyes stopped moving and his ears started pricking when a new, unknown smell filled his scent glands.

| For once, Vulture had decided to leave the safety of the twoleg city behind and venture not far from it trough the surrounding trees. The night was still fresh when the brown tabby stalked trough the woods. They reek of tree and wetness. He observed absently. The city had always a stinking, rotten smell coming from the monsters the twolegs drove in. Depending on how deep you were in it the smell would be replaced occasionally for trash, rats, rotting fish and other shenanigans. It was what Vulture had grown to love. What he had grown to known. It only had been about two moons now since he left ShadowClan and yet it felt like ages. His pale, green eyes looked up at the moon when the cry of an owl echoed above his head. He twitched his slender, long tail and continued to stalk trough the shrub. He almost could forget how peaceful a forest could be. The monsters of the twolegs were almost all asleep at night. Some would venture trough the city with their masters. It was as good as the only silence Vulture could get. But this was almost deafening.
When a new smell presented itself to the tabby, he immediately froze and bristled. It had become a habit to mistrust any new cat smell he scented. In the city the other cats were far from friendly. He had to fight, bitterly, for his own. Suspiciously that the cat smelled like ThunderClan he poked his nose trough the shrub and saw him. He had turned his back towards him. Claws unseated he stepped out, making sure he would make enough noise to be noticed by the tom. He cleared his throat and said, loud and clear: "What is your business here, ThunderClan cat?" It sounded neutral but still tense. The scars on his neck, flank and back were still fresh. Healed, but fresh. He could feel them prick as his gaze met those of the other cat. "You ventured far from your territory, really far" He noted, seriously wondering why it was that he ventured so far. |

| He immediately turned around by the sound of pawsteps approaching through the bushes. An average sized tomcat walked through the bushes and green eyes looked up to him. The coal-black warrior looked at the stranger with an insinuatingly shrill look, observing the cat from top to toe: he didn't look like a threat, though, that could just be a misleading disguisement. The tabby, who was as dark as the bark of the tallpines around him and as white as the clouds on a sunny day in Greenleaf, had an indifferent look on his face, which for some reason gave Lusterflame a feeling that the cat was a reasonable cat. On the other hand, Lusterflame may be nosy but he was definitely not naive and let the judgement disappear for later. Suspicion filled his body, wondering who this cat was and what he was doing here. Was it a warrior from another clan? But then why would he be so far away from his own territory? Yet realizing that the stranger could ask him the same question, which was exactly what he did. "What is your business here, ThunderClan cat?''. For some reason his voice sounded the same as the look he had on his face: it didn't give Lusterflame a bad or hostile feeling. Lusterflame did not answer him yet. His bright, radiant orange-yellow eyes just stared into his in an impenetrable way. He could discover a bit of hesitancy in the eyes of the cat. Like he felt pressured into saying each word he said. He spoke again: "You ventured far from your territory, really far''.
Instead of answering his question, Lusterflame ignored what he said and greeted the unknown cat. He knew that his clan always taught him not to trust any stranger, and always react with hostility at first sight, but there was something telling him it was the right thing to do. ''Hello to you as well'', he said cynical, but not unfriendly, actually rather sympathetic, as he couldn't resist a sarcastic grin. He walked off the small hill but made slow movements, closer, but not too close to the brown cat, as he did not know how he would react. Was it one of those kittypets he heard the clan speak about once in a while? When closer, Lusterflame's eyes got bigger and a surprised frown covered his face: the cat had multiple scars on his body. It looked like the wounds weren't fresh and actually healed, but they weren't invisible for the eye. This cat clearly was not a kittypet. ‘’I could ask you the same question’’, he said in response to his first question. Cheecky, though again, his tone still didn’t sound unfriendly. |
